
Sensei Sean (Yondan, IOGKF Canada)
Sensei Sean has practiced Goju-Ryu Karate-do for over 28 years, and he has been teaching for 20 years. He is the founder and head instructor of Shugyō Karate Dōjō.
He currently holds the rank of Yondan (4th degree black belt) in Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-do and Shodan (1st degree black belt) in Okinawan Ryukyu Kobudo. He is a member of the International Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-do Federation (IOGKF) Canada, and Ryûkyû Kobudô Tesshinkan. He also has ranking and/or experience in Judo, Brazilian Jiujitsu, Mixed Martial Arts, and Military Unarmed Combat.
Sensei Sean has had many instructors over the years. He started his journey in Goju-Ryu Karate-do under Kyoshi James Fries. His current teacher is Tetsuji Nakamura Sensei (World Head Instructor of IOGKF International).

Sensei Sean has a passion for learning. He has attended seminars with many other world-renowned martial artists such as Morio Higaonna Sensei, Sensei Ernie Molyneux, Sensei Pervez Mistry, Sifu Larry Hartsell (JKD) , Heath Herring and Chuck Liddell (MMA). Sensei Sean is an NCCP trained karate coach, and he maintains his First Aid, CPR, and AED certification with the Canadian Red Cross.
Sensei Sean's approach to teaching is to lead by example. Every class he teaches is dynamic. His classes include a full body warm-up in the traditional method (junbi undo), basic techniques (kihon), prearranged exercises (kata), partner drills (kumite, randori, and kakie). Every class he instructs always starts and finishes with respect. Sensei Sean always has a motivational message to inspire his students.

Sensei Sean believes that karate is for everyone, and that every student is on their own endless learning journey. As he continues to pursue his personal karate goals, his other goal is to be an inspirational leader to those who choose to follow him.
